Charter House, England

Six Brookstone Middle School students and their chaperone traveled to England this summer for a three week program with the Independent School Cultural Alliance (ISCA).  Brookstone students joined 96 students and their chaperones from the United States and Peru. They were met by an English staff of highly qualified teachers chosen for their experience with working with middle school students. CharterHouse School in Godalming Surrey was home for the three weeks.

Two days a week was spent on campus with students participating in English sports. Travel tours included Lord Nelson's HMS Victory at Portmouth, Arundel Castle, Winchester Cathedral, Windsor Castle, the Tower of London, Science Museum, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Runnymede and J.F.K. Memorial, the British Museum, Shakespeare's Birthplace and Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Buckingham Palace, Bath, Stonehenge, Churchill Museum, Blenheim Palace, Canterbury Cathedral, and Hampton Court. Students were 'groundlings" at the Golbe Theatre as they watched Mark Ryland and cast in "Richard III."  Students were amazed at the special effects and music in "Shrek" at the Royal Drury Lane Theatre.  A special highlight of the trip was seeing how London was preparing for the 2012 Olympics and watching the Opening Ceremonies on campus with students from the United States, Peru, and China.
